Events[edit]

Major League Baseball expanded the use of instant replay for the 2014 season. Each manager was now allowed to challenge one call per game by requesting a video review, covering almost all decisions by umpires with a few exceptions such as the calling of balls and strikes. Since its introduction in 2008, the recourse to instant replay had been the sole purview of the umpires.

For the first time, MLB opened its season in Australia, with the Los Angeles Dodgers playing the Arizona Diamondbacks for a pair of games at the Sydney Cricket Ground on March 22-23.
