History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 2014 Colorado Rockies had the best offense in the majors during April, with a team batting line of .293/.343/.480, with 64 doubles and 38 homers on the way to scoring 157 runs and putting up a record of 16-13. The chief movers for the team were SS Troy Tulowitzki, who was named the National League's Player of the Month on the strength of a .364 average, 7 homers, 24 runs scored and 22 RBI, and 3B Nolan Arenado who hit .310 with a hitting streak covering the last 20 games of the month. Two additions to the line-up, 1B Justin Morneau, who hit .343 with 22 RBI, and CF Charlie Blackmon, who hit .374 and scored 23 times, were also major contributors. Arenado and Tulowitzki kept their hot bats going into May. On May 6th, Tulowitzki pushed his average to .408 while Arenado extended his hitting streak to 26 games when the Rockies collected 21 hits in defeating the Texas Rangers, 12-1. Arenado extended his streak to 27 games the next day, as his two-run double in the 1st inning, part of a 3-for-5 performance, keyed another lopsided win over the Rangers, this time 9-2; the 27 games tied the team record set by Michael Cuddyer in 2013. Arenado set a new record with a hit in his 28th straight game on May 8th as the Rockies lost to the Rangers, 5-0.
The Rockies' hot start was derailed by injuries, however, as within a two-week period in late May and early June, Arenado suffered a broken finger, OF Carlos Gonzalez went down with another finger injury, and the team's best starter thus far, Jordan Lyles, broke his glove hand on a fielding play.
