The 2015 Colorado Rockies opened the season on a very strong note. Playing their opening series on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers, they began the year with an emphatic 10-0 win on April 6th, behind the pitching of new acquisition Kyle Kendrick and a barrage of extra-base hits, including six doubles. The next day, they won again, 5-2, with Jordan Lyles getting the win, and hit another 6 doubles. This tied the major league record of 12 in a team's first two games, set by the 1912 New York Giants. Another positive point was that two of the team's key players who had missed a good part of the 2014 season, SS Troy Tulowitzki and LF Carlos Gonzalez, were back in full health. They made it 3-0 with an extra-inning 5-4 win over the Brewers on April 8th, propelled by a 10th-inning homer by pinch-hitter Wilin Rosario off Francisco Rodriguez. With another win against the Chicago Cubs in their home opener at Coors Field on April 10th, 5-0, they improved to 4-0 for only the second time in team history, the other having come in 1995 when the Rox had made the postseason for the first time. Things did not stop there, as the Rockies then swept a three-game series on the road against the San Francisco Giants on April 13-15, a trip highlighted by a tremendous catch by 3B Nolan Arenado in the middle game. They improved to 7-2 and were in first place in the NL West, a game ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers at that early point.

On September 15th, the Rockies set a major league record by using 30 players and 13 pitchers in a 5-4, 16-inning win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Another pitcher, rookie Jason Gurka, played in the field, taking over for an exhausted Carlos Gonzalez in right field the bottom of the 16th.
