History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

Coming off three consecutive seasons of 95+ losses, the 2014 Minnesota Twins were happy to begin the year by playing .500 ball - 12-12 - during the month of April. That record was achieved in spite of being swept by the Oakland Athletics in their first home series, and especially in spite of their starting pitchers being awful all month, putting up a collective ERA of 6.08. What saved the Twins was a tremendous on-base percentage of .353, best in the American League, the result of drawing 123 walks, and the clutch hitting of Chris Colabello, who drove in a league-leading 27 runs during the month. Lead-off hitter Brian Dozier was just as important, scoring 25 runs in the 25 games, while 3B Trevor Plouffe had 11 doubles, scored 18 and drove in 19.
