The 1988 Minnesota Twins finished with a better record than the team that had won the World Series the previous year, winning 91 games in comparison to 87 in 1987. However, they finished in second place, 13 games behind the Oakland Athletics, who surged to a 104-win season in winning the first of three consecutive division titles.
