Paul Lewis Emmel

Biographical Information[edit]

Paul Emmel was a MLB umpire from 1999, when he got his start in the National League, until 2017. After missing the 2018 season, he returned in 2019 and worked another 81 games, missing all of July and part of August. He began umpiring while in college. In the minors, he worked in the 1992-1993 New York-Penn League, 1994 South Atlantic League, 1995 Carolina League, 1996 Florida State League, 1997-1998 Eastern League and 1998 International League.

Emmel came to the majors in 1999. He worked the 2002 All-Star Game and 2013 All-Star Game and worked the 2009 and 2013 World Baseball Classics. He missed both the 2020 and 2021 major league seasons, but returned to work a full slate of games in 2022.
