Events[edit]

The first edition of the World Baseball Classic was held before the 2006 season. Japan won the tournament, defeating Cuba in the finale.

A new Collective Bargaining Agreement was signed in 2006. It was in force until the 2011 season. In contrast to previous editions, the agreement was negotiated in a positive climate without recourse to the threat of a work stoppage.
