Biographical Information[edit]
John Hirschbeck has been a big league umpire since 1983, when he worked his first American League. He is currently designated a crew chief. In 2003, he was suspended for 10 games for threatening an official in the commissioner's office. His brother, Mark Hirschbeck, was also a big league ump.
Hirschbeck made his Major League umpiring debut in 1983 and umpired in the American League until 2000, when Major League Baseball combined the AL and National League staffs into one staff. Hirschbeck has umpired in the All-Star Game in 1989, 2004 and 2013. He served on the World Series umpiring crew in 1995, 2006 and 2010. He retired after serving as crew chief for the 2016 World Series.
