Events[edit]

On July 3rd, Major League Baseball staged the Fort Bragg Game at a temporary ballpark on the Fort Bragg Army Base in Fort Bragg, NC. It was both the first major league game to be staged on a military base, and the first to be played in the state of North Carolina.

After the 2016 season, on November 30th, a new Collective Bargaining Agreement was signed between Major League Baseball owners and the Major League Players Association. The agreement was reached without the threat of a strike, as had been the case for the previous two rounds of negotiations, dating back to 2006. Changes introduced in the agreement started to be implemented in 2017.
