Biographical Information[edit]
Carlos Torres is a major league umpire.
Torres began in the Gulf Coast League in 2009 and moved up to the New York-Penn League and Carolina League in 2010, the South Atlantic League in 2011, Southern League in 2012 and the International League from 2013-2015. On July 17, 2015, he was a MLB call-up umpire for a game, becoming the second Venezuelan to work a MLB game, following Manny Gonzalez by five years. He worked 19 games in the majors that season.
Carlos worked the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In 2017, he was one of four umpires added to the full-time major league staff. He was the first umpire to come out of MLB's Umpire Camps, that were specifically set up to attract more minority representatives into umpire ranks, something which the traditional umpire schools had a poor record of doing. He worked the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
