Biographical Information[edit]
Tony Randazzo made his umpiring debut in the 1989 New York-Penn League and advanced to the Florida State League (1990-1991), Texas League (1992-1993), American Association (1994-1995) and Pacific Coast League (1996-1999). He joined the National League staff in 1999, being brought on after the failed mass resignation ploy by members of the Umpires' Association late that season. He was then added to the combined major league staff in 2000. He worked the 2001 All-Star Game and 2012 All-Star Game. He also worked the 2016 World Series.
He missed the 2008 season due to neck surgery. On May 12, 2017, he was hit in the face by a Johnny Cueto fastball in the 5th inning when Billy Hamilton squared off to bunt but pulled away at the last minute, leaving C Buster Posey unable to catch the pitch. He fell to the ground but stayed in the game after being examined by the Giants' trainer. However, as the game went into extra innings, he left in the 13th and second base umpire Clint Fagan took over for him. The game was eventually decided when Posey hit a walk-off homer in the 17th. He then missed almost a month of action, only umpiring his next game on June 9th. He also missed the entire 2022 season, but came back in 2023.
