The 2005 Major League Baseball season was the sixth season in which the two major leagues, the National League and the American League, were consolidated into a single entity under the authority of the Commissioner, Bud Selig.

2005 saw the first relocation of a team since the Washington Senators had become the Texas Rangers before the 1972 season when the Montréal Expos became the Washington Nationals.
