Biographical Information[edit]
Larry Poncino was a National League umpire from 1985 to 1999, most notably working the 1996 All-Star Game and 1998 NLCS as well as working home plate in Dennis Martinez's perfect game on July 28, 1991. He resigned in 1999 as part of the mass resignation arranged by Richie Phillips but was rehired by Major League Baseball in 2002 and received back-pay for the time missed.
During his second stint as an umpire, from 2002 to 2007, he worked the 2003 NLCS and 2005 NLCS. In the minors, Poncino worked in the California League in 1977, Texas League in 1978-1979 and Pacific Coast League from 1980-1992.
