Biographical Information[edit]
Lance Barksdale is a major league umpire who umpired his first major league game in 2000. He umpired his first All-Star Game in 2012 and worked postseason games the following three years.
He was the first umpire to have a home run call overturned due to instant replay in Major League Baseball history. The first 13 instant replays had shown that the umps were right. On May 13, 2009, Barksdale called an Adam LaRoche drive a homer, but it was ruled a double on replay.
He served an umpire in the first five editions of the World Baseball Classic (2006, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2023). He became a crew chief in 2023.
