Events[edit]

The 2015 season saw the introduction of the Statcast advanced metric system that tracks all events on the field of play, including the distance traveled by home runs, the exit velocity of batted balls, their launch angle, the amount of ground covered by fielders attempting a play, and the speed at which they travel. The availability of all of this new and precise data would soon bring analytics into whole new areas of the game.
