Biographical Information[edit]

Alan Porter is a major league umpire who worked his big league game on April 5, 2010. A fill-in from 2010 to 2012, he was appointed a full-time member of the major league umpiring staff in 2013. He worked his first postseason games in 2014 and also was part of the umpiring crew for the 2015 All-Star Game. He was named a crew chief in 2023 then worked the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

He started umpiring in the minor leagues in 2002, first working in the Gulf Coast League. He moved to the New York-Penn League in 2003, the South Atlantic League in 2004, the Carolina League in 2005, the Eastern League in 2006 and 2007 and the International League from 2008 to 2010. He has also worked in the Florida Instructional League, Arizona Instructional League and Arizona Fall League. He worked the 2010 AAA All-Star Game. He worked his first major league spring training games in 2009.

He was born in Philadelphia, PA, and lives in Warminster, PA, in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
