Biographical Information

Lance Barrett has been a professional umpire since 2003. He umpired his first major league game at the tail end of the 2010 season, working only three National League games that year. He was a fill-in umpire for the next three seasons as well, working a total of 212 games. Before the 2014 season, he was added to Major League Baseball's full-time umpiring staff as six new openings were created as a result of the adoption of expanded instant replay rules. At only 29, he was the youngest of seven umpires to receive such a promotion (another spot had opened following the off-season death of umpire Wally Bell).
