Biographical Information[edit]

Umpire Chad Whitson worked his first major league games in 2014, after first working spring training games in 2012. After just a handful of games his first two seasons while he was principally in AAA, he worked 52 games in 2016 before being in the majors basically full time the next two seasons. He was added permanently to the major league staff on July 19, 2019, when Mike DiMuro announced his retirement.

In an amusing twist, Whitson only had two ejections from a game from the time he first worked in the majors until the end of the 2018 season - and both times it was catcher Matt Wieters. The two tossings came a year apart in August of 2017 and 2018, and both times it was for arguing balls and strikes. He broke that streak in 2019 when he tossed Miguel Cabrera out of a game for the same reason.
