Biographical Information[edit]

Gary Cederstrom began his umpiring career in the Midwest League in 1979 and stayed in that circuit until 1981. He then worked in the Eastern League in 1982 and 1983, and during 1983 he moved up to the American Association.

He umpired his first major league game as a member of the American League staff in 1989, then joined the major league umpire roster in 2000 when the two leagues' umpire rosters were consolidated. He umpired his 3,000th career major league game in 2014. He retired after the 2019 season, having reached the rank of crew chief.
