History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

On April 19th, the 2016 Washington Nationals set a team record with four homers in the 7th inning of a 7-0 win over the Miami Marlins. The game had been a scoreless pitchers' duel between Stephen Strasburg and the Marlins' Adam Conley until then, but Conley gave up a one-out blast to Jayson Werth in the fateful inning; Wilson Ramos followed with another homer on the next pitch, and after Miami had loaded the bases, Bryce Harper connected for a grand slam off Chris Narveson. Ryan Zimmerman then followed with another long ball. For Harper, it was his second career grand slam, and also the second one in a week, as he had connected for his 100th career homer with the bases loaded on April 14th. On April 23rd, it was the pitchers who set a team record, with a combined 18 strikeouts in a game against the Minnesota Twins. It was the most Ks recorded by the Nationals in a game since moving to Washington in 2005. Tanner Roark, back as a full-time starter after a season spent as a swingman, struck out a career-high 15 in 7 innings and relievers Blake Treinen, Oliver Perez and Jonathan Papelbon added one each as the Nats combined for a two-hit shutout.
