Biographical Information

Umpire Ramon De Jesus worked his first major league game on April 22, 2016. While not an official member of the major league umpiring roster that season, he saw plenty of action, working a total of 93 games as a replacement for umpires on vacation or otherwise unavailable for duty.

He was the first umpire born in the Dominican Republic to reach the major leagues, and part of a wider push by Major League Baseball to recruit more umpires of Hispanic background, to reflect the demographics of the major league game. He first began umpiring in his native country in 2002, working everything from Little League Baseball all the way up to the Dominican League. He then moved to the minor leagues in 2009, when he was in the Gulf Coast League. He was on the roster of the Pacific Coast League when he made his major league debut, and also made stops in the New York-Penn League, South Atlantic League, Florida State League and Eastern League in addition to the Arizona Fall League and spring training games.

In 2020, he was added to the permanent major league umpiring staff. He worked the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
