From BR Bullpen

The 2024 CPBL All-Star Games were held July 20 and July 21, 2024. The topic of this year was the Chinese Taipei national team of the 2024 Premier 12 versus the CPBL All-Star team.

Game 1[edit]

Team 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Chinese Taipei 1 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 8 0
CPBL 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 2 9 1

The first game took place July 20 at Taipei Dome with an attendance of 33,688, and it easily broke the record for most attendance of a CPBL All-Star Game. Chinese Taipei started their offense in the first inning, as Li Lin hit a lead off single against CPBL’s starter Tzu-Peng Huang. Chieh-Hsien Chen then added a double, and Huang forced An-Ko Lin to hit a comebacker to the pitcher. However, Huang decided to throw to second trying to get Chen, but all runners were safe. Giljegiljaw Kungkuan then drove in a run with a fly ball, and Huang finally retired Chi-Hung Hsu to end the inning. The CPBL answered back soon as Cheng-Hua Yueh and Chun-Hsiu Chen both singled with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. However, starter Ruei-Yang Gu Lin still forced Wei-Chen Wang to hit a grounder to short and escape the jam.

Huang ended his work after the 2nd inning, and Yen-Ching Lu replaced him. An-Ko Lin then sent crushed a 2-run homer to right field, and he extended their lead to 3 runs. Chinese Taipei also changed pitcher in the bottom of the inning, but Kuo-Hao Chiang plunked Po-Jung Wang then allowed a single to Chun-Hsiu Chen. When the bases were loaded, Wei-Chen Wang shut down the CPBL’s offense again, as he grounded into a double play. It was worth mentioning that the league made the first in-game interview in the CPBL in this inning.

Daniel Mengden of the CPBL had some trouble in the 5th inning, as he gave up a leadoff single to Kun-Yu Chiang. Chih-Cheng Chiu then added a double, and Mengden retired Li Lin. Facing two red-hot batters in Chieh-Hsien Chen and An-Ko Lin, Mengden fanned both of them and remained scoreless.

The most dramatic inning was the bottom of the 9th inning. Two coaches, Chin-Feng Chen and Keiichi Hirano, exchanged their positions with the first and third base umpires. Chinese Taipei’s closer Chun-Wei Wu was sent to the mound, but Chieh-Kai Pan greeted him with a single. Namoh Iyang then hit an infield single, and Wu struck out Pao-Ti Yeh. However, Yeh’s teammate from TSG, Chao-Yuan Chang, then hit a double, and it was a one-run game now. Wu retired Chieh-Sen Ma, then he was relieved by Chih-Hsuan Wang. Wang forced Cheng-Tang Wang to hit a fly ball, and the Chinese Taipei team finally ended their 5-game losing streak.

Game 2[edit]

Team 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
CPBL 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 8 1
Chinese Taipei 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 3 X 4 7 0

In front of 28,666 fans at Taipei Dome, Chinese Taipei swept their opponent for the first time in the event's history. The CPBL’s Cheng-Hua Yueh and Wei-Chen Wang both singled in the first inning, but Jo-Hsi Hsu retired [[Tzu-Hsien Chan], then he forced Po-Jung Wang to fly out to remain scoreless. After Chen-Yen Chiang replaced Hsu, the CPBL’s Chieh-Sen Ma and Tien-Hsin Kuo added two singles in the 3rd inning. Yueh popped out, and Wang hit a fly ball to left. However, Namoh Iyang then added a single, and the CPBL took the lead. Kuo was tagged in the second to end the CPBL’s offense.

The Chinese Taipei roared back soon. Chih-Cheng Chiu walked in the 4th inning, and he soon stole second. CPBL catcher Chao-Yuan Chang's throw to second was a little high, and Chiu advanced to third. Yu-Hsien Chu then tied the game with a single. In the 5th inning, the all-time best pitcher Wei-Lun Pan made his 13th All-Star appearances, and he set the CPBL record for most All-Star played by a pitcher. In his last All-Star game, his long-time battery partner Chih-Kang Kao (the Chinese Taipei team’s coach) got on the field as the catcher and finished an at-bat with Pan.

After being blanked for 3 innings, the Chinese Taipei broke through the CPBL’s Rio Gomez in the 8th inning. This season’s steals leader Chen-Wei Chen singled first, then he collected a steal. Last night’s hero An-Ko Lin then took the lead with a timely single, and Giljegiljaw Kungkuan added 2 insurance runs with a home run. Bo-Hao Chen saved it, and Lin became the first player to win two consecutive All-Star MVPs in CPBL history.

It was worth mentioning that in the 9th inning, the Chinese Taipei pitching coach, former MLB player Chien-Ming Wang sent himself to the mound. He faced the CPBL’s manager, I-Chung Hung, and another former MLB player Chin-Feng Chen also went to the plate. After Wang plunked Chen, he was relieved by Yueh-Ping Lin (CPBL’s coach, former CPBL All-time closer), and he retired Chien-Ming Chang to end this meaningful All-Star Game.
