Biographical Information[edit]

Chih-Cheng Chiu played in the CPBL and for the Chinese Taipei national baseball team.

Chiu was drafted by the Uni-President Lions in the fifth round of the 2019 CPBL Draft; he received a 1.6 million NT dollars signing bonus. He spent his first two seasons mainly in the minor league, only playing 4 games combined with the big club. Since the Lions had three solid outfielders - Chieh-Hsien Chen, An-Ko Lin and Chih-Chieh Su, Chiu didn't haved many chances. He replaced injured Chao-Ting Tang to become the 4th outfielder for the Lions in 2022, and he hit .252/.319/.297. Chiu broke out in 2023, hitting .313/.386/.436 with 5 homers. The Lions advanced to the 2023 CPBL Playoff Series, and Chiu was 2-for-11, with a RBI single against Pedro Fernandez. The Rakuten Monkeys swept the Lions in that series.

The Taitung native represented Taiwan in the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship after the season. He debuted against Australia, and he was 1-for-4, with a single against Ky Hampton. He then went 1-for-3 against Young-kyu Kim of South Korea, then went 1-for-3 with a RBI to help Taiwan beat Australia to win Bronze. Chiu then made it onto Taiwan's roster for the 2023 Asian Championship. He was 1-for-3, with a single against Kang-hoon Woo of South Korea in the opener, then went 1-for-4 with 2 runs scored against Palestine. Chiu extended his solid batting as he had a 2-for-3 record, with a 2-run triple against Chun Pui Mok of Hong Kong, but he was then 0-for-4 against Japan. He struggled again as he was 0-for-4 against the Philippines in the next game, and Taiwan advanced to Gold Medal game. In the Gold Medal Game, Chiu was 1-for-3, with a single against Mizuki Kato, but Taiwan still lost to Japan and won Silver. He was error-free in 5 chances as an outfielder in 6 games.
