Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Chao-Ting Tang played in the minor leagues and the CPBL.

Tang represented Taiwan in the 2005 U-18 Asian Baseball Championship and 2007 World Port Tournament. The Detroit Tigers signed him with a $50,000 signing bonus in 2008, and he hit .222/.281/.333 for the GCL Tigers. Tang's batting line was .307/.374/.413 in GCL in 2009, but he only hit .195/.233/.256 for the West Michigan Whitecaps. He split action between the A- and A+ classes in 2010, and his batting line was .197/.241/.252 with the Connecticut Tigers and .209/.255/.233 with the Lakeland Flying Tigers. The Tigers released him after the 2010 season. Tang then played with an amateur team for 2 years, and he also represented Taiwan in the 2012 Haarlem Baseball Week.

The Uni-President Lions drafted Tang in the second round of the 2012 CPBL Draft, and he hit .255/.303/.338 with 14 steals in his rookie year. He was 10th in the 2013 CPBL in steals, 15 behind Sheng-Wei Wang. He also played in the 2013 World Port Tournament. In the 2013 Taiwan Series, Tang was 1-for-13 and the Lions swept the EDA Rhinos. Tang then hit .280/.307/.348 in 2014, and he had a solid .331/.378/.415 batting line in the beginning of the 2015 season. However, he suffered from a right elbow injury in May, and he missed the rest of the season. He came back in 2016, hitting .307/.363/.426 with a career-high 8 homers. Tang had a .279/.329/.370 batting line with a career-high 17 doubles in 2017, but he then slumped to .238/.288/.306 in 2018. He was 2-for-13 in the 2018 Taiwan Series, and the Lamigo Monkeys beat the Lions in 5 games.

Tang batted .241/.301/.291 in 2019, then he bounced back in 2020. His batting line was solid .364/.413/.480 in 92 games, and he would won the batting title had he qualified. Tang hit .214/.214/.286 in the 2020 Taiwan Series, and he won his second title as the Lions beat the CTBC Brothers in 7 games. With young prospects like An-Ko Lin shined, Tang's spot was taken and he only played 64 games with a .240/.303/.289 batting line in 2021. He tore his Achilles tendon before the 2021 Taiwan Series, and he nearly missed the entire 2022 season. He struggled after returning, and his batting line was .197/.293/.212 in 35 games in 2023.
