Biographical Information[edit]

Pedro Fernandez has pitched in the minor league and the CPBL.

Fernandez was signed by Kansas City Royals scouts Edis Perez and Alvin Cuevas in 2011 [1], and he was 3-2 with a 1.93 ERA with the DSL Royals. He then pitched 4 games with a 0.75 ERA in the DSL in 2013, and he recorded a 1.82 ERA in 8 games for the AZL Royals. Fernandez was 1-8 with a 4.99 ERA for the Lexington Legends in 2014, then he improved to 6-2 with a 3.12 ERA in 2015. He was promoted to A+ Wilmington Blue Rocks, but his ERA was 8.82 in 7 starts there. Fernandez had a solid 2.14 ERA in 6 games with the Blue Rocks in 2016, and he was 1-2 with a 4.03 ERA for the AA Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

The Dominican was turned into a reliever in 2017, and his ERA was 2.66 in 29 appearances with the Naturals. He was promoted to AAA Omaha Storm Chasers, and he recorded a 4.10 ERA in 10 games there. Fernandez struggled with the Storm Chasers in 2018 as his ERA was 7.00 in 6 games, but he pitched well in AA; he had a 2.81 ERA in 26 appearances. The Royals then released him, and he was 2-4 with a 8.27 ERA for the Algodoneros de Union Laguna of the Mexican League in 2019. He didn't pitch for two years, then he returned to Mexico in 2022. Fernandez was 8-4 with a 4.42 ERA for the Tigres de Quintana Roo, and he signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. He was 3-3 with a 4.05 ERA for the Nashville Sounds in 2023.

When the Rakuten Monkeys of the CPBL released Elian Leyva in the middle of the 2023 season, they signed Fernandez to fill his hole. Fernandez pitched well in Taiwan, having a 4-1 record with a 2.09 ERA in 8 starts.[2] He started in 2023 CPBL Playoff Series Game 1, and he pitched 8 innings with 8 strikeouts and 2 runs allowed to outduel Brock Dykxhoorn of the Uni-President Lions. The Monkeys eliminated the Lions in 3 games, and Fernandez was named their starter of the 2023 Taiwan Series opener. He only allowed 2 runs in 5 innings, and he ended up with a no-decision. Fernandez then shined in Game 5, fanning 13 in 8 shutout innings to get the win over Jake Brigham. He broke Mariano De Los Santos's record for most strikeouts in a no-extra-inning game in a Taiwan Series, and he tied Hung-Chin Tu's CPBL record (Tu's 13 strikeouts were in 12 innings). The Wei Chuan Dragons still beat the Monkeys in 7 games.[3]
