Biographical Information[edit]

Jyun-Yue Tseng has been a CPBL Rookie of the Year. He is the closer of Fubon Guardians [1]

Tseng was a 7th-round pick of the Fubon Guardians in the 2020 CPBL Draft. [2] He debuted in 2021 CPBL and soon became the setup man of Fubon Guardians. In the middle of the season, since the Guardians were lack of starting pitcher, their manager I-Chung Hung decided to move the original closer Hung-Wen Chen into the rotation. [3] Tseng then became the closer with his 1.40 ERA. After gaining the closer spot, Tseng had 12 saves and only two blown saves. He finished this season with a 1.80 ERA and 0.95 WHIP, fanning 62 in 55 innings. He was fifth in saves and eighth in holds, that helped him beat Tien-Hsin Kuo and Jo-Hsi Hsu to become Rookie of the Year.

In 2022 CPBL, Tseng was 2-4 and a 2.86 ERA, notched 20 saves and 6 holds, only blown 4 saves. He finished third in saves (behind Bradin Hagens and Bryan Woodall). Tseng then represented Taiwan in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. He relieved Kai-Wei Teng in the 6th inning against Panama, but he allowed a single to Jonathan Arauz then walked Christian Bethancourt and Jose Ramos. After Ruben Tejada hit a single, Tseng was replaced by Che-Yuan Wu. He then succeeded Shao-Ching Chiang versus Cuba in the 7th inning. Tseng gave up back-to-back singles to Roel Santos and Yoan Moncada, then struck out the next three batters (Luis Robert, Alfredo Despaigne and Erisbel Arruebarrena) to end this inning.

Tseng was 2-2 with a 1.22 ERA in 2023, notching 9 holds and 18 saves while sharing the closer spot with Enderson Franco. He was 2nd in saves (4 behind Yen-Ching Lu) and 4th in appearances (7 behind Chun-Wei Wu). On September 26, he broke Yun-Wen Chen's record and became the fastest player to notch 50 career saves. He also attended the 2023 CPBL All-Star Game, and he pitched a shutout inning.

The young closer then pitched for Taiwan in the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. He relieved Kai-Wei Lin in the 9th inning against Japan, but he allowed three straight singles - to Shota Morishita, Shugo Maki and Teruaki Sato - after retiring Kaito Kozono. Chusei Mannami then drove in a run with a grounder, and Shogo Sakakura added a RBI single. Tseng was relieved by Po-Ching Chen. He then succeeded Tzu-Chiang Lee in the 9th inning against South Korea, and he pitched a shutout inning. Taiwan won Bronze thanks to Tien-Hsin Kuo's walk-off hit in the Bronze Medal game against Australia.[4]

Tseng's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 97.5 mph and a slurve [5]
