Biographical Information[edit]
Po-Ching Chen has played in the CPBL and for the Taiwanese national team.
Chen was drafted by the TSG Hawks in the 12th round of the 2022 CPBL Draft. [1] He soon became their ace, and pitched well in his rookie year in the minor league. He was 4-1 with a 3.06 ERA, and led the league in both ERA and strikeouts (63). In the championship series of the CPBL minor league, Chen pitched 7 innings with only 2 runs allowed, and helped the Hawks beat the Fubon Guardians.[2]
The Nantou native then represented Taiwan in the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. He relieved Jyun-Yueh Tseng in the 9th inning against Japan with the bases loaded. Chen allowed a RBI single to Makoto Kadowaki and walked Yuki Nomura, then he finally retired Yuki Okabayashi to end this inning. He then replaced Chun-Wei Chiu in the 5th inning against Australia in the Bronze Medal game. Chen retired 7 straight batters, but he had trouble in the 7th inning. He allowed 3 consecutive hits to Christopher Burke, Mitchell Edwards and Luke Smith, then Tzu-Chiang Lee replaced him. Lee gave up a game-tying 2-run single to Clayton Campbell, and those runs were charged to Chen. Taiwan won Bronze thanks to Tien-Hsin Kuo's walk-off hit.[3]
