Biographical Information[edit]
Tzu-Chiang Lee has played in the CPBL and for the Taiwanese national team.
Lee was drafted by the Fubon Guardians in the fifth round of the 2021 CPBL Draft. [1] He spent the vast majority of his rookie year in the minor league, pitching one game with the big club. Lee improved and recorded a 3.18 ERA in 14 games in 2022. He was selected into the 2023 CPBL All-Star Games, and he relieved Chien Yu in the 8th inning in Game 2. Lee retired Tzu-Hsien Chan, Wei-Chan Wang and Kuo-Chen Fan respectively; Kuo-Hao Chiang relieved him. Lee ended up 2-4 with a 4.47 ERA in 29 appearances in 2023.[2]
The Tainan native then represented Taiwan in the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. He relieved Chih-Hsuan Wang in the 6th inning against South Korea and pitched 2 shutout innings. Lee then replaced Po-Ching Chen in the 7th inning when the bases were loaded against Australia in the Bronze Medal game. Lee retired Alex Skepton, but he then gave up a game-tying, 2-run double to Liam Spence. He struck out Aaron Whitefield to end this inning, then pitched another shutout inning with a strikeout of Clayton Campbell. Taiwan won Bronze thanks to Tien-Hsin Kuo's walk-off hit.[3]
Lee made it onto Taiwan's roster for the 2023 Asian Championship. He debuted against Palestine, and he struck out the side after relieving Jen-Ho Tseng in the 5th inning. Lee then relieved Jing-Yu Chang in the 8th inning against the Philippines. He fanned Clarence Caasalan, retired Mark Manaig and struck out Ignacio Escano to earn the save. Taiwan was beaten by Japan in the title game and won Silver in the event.[4]
