Biographical Information[edit]

Chih-Hsuan Wang has played in the CPBL and for the Taiwanese national team.

Wang was drafted by the Rakuten Monkeys in the fifth round of the 2020 CPBL Draft. [1] He spent his first two seasons mainly in the minor league, only pitching 11 games combined with the big club. He led the minor league with 10 holds in 2021.[2]

Rakuten pitching coach Tsuyoshi Kawagishi, turned him into a sidearm pitcher in 2023, and Wang broke out. He became an important part of Rakuten's bullpen, and he notched 11 holds with a 1.29 ERA (1-0, Sv) in 43 appearances. He only totaled 35 innings as he was used as a LOOGY. He pitched 2/3 of an inning to collect a hold against the Uni-President Lions in Game 2 of the 2023 CPBL Playoff Series, then pitched 1/3 inning to help the Monkeys eliminate the Lions in Game 3. In the 2023 Taiwan Series, Wang notched a hold with a shutout inning in Game 1, then got another hold as he completed 2/3 of a shutout inning in Game 2. He relieved Chun-Hsiang Chu in the 7th inning of Game 3, but Wang gave up 3 straight hits to Namoh Iyang, Cheng-Yu Chang and Kai-Wei Li, then Bradin Hagens replaced him. Hagens allowed another 2 RBI singles to Kungkuan Giljegiljaw and Tien-Hsin Kuo. Wang pitched a shutout inning in Game 7, but the Dragons still beat the Monkeys.

The Hsinchu native then represented Taiwan in the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. He relieved Rui-Yang Gu Lin against Japan in the 7th inning, and he retired Teruaki Sato then Shao-En Lin replaced him. Wang then succeeded Kuo-Hao Chiang in the 5th inning against South Korea. he walked Hyun-bin Moon, retired Ji-hoon Choi then forced Hye-seong Kim to ground into a double play; Tzu-Chiang Lee relieved him. Taiwan won Bronze thanks to Tien-Hsin Kuo's walk-off hit in the Bronze Medal game against Australia.[3]
