Biographical Information[edit]

Cheng-Yu Chang played in the CPBL and for the Chinese Taipei national baseball team. His brother Shih-Lun Chang also played in the CPBL.

Chang was drafted by the Wei-Chuan Dragons in the 11th round of the 2019 CPBL Draft. He spent his first season in the minor league, and he hit .348/.391/.520 with 24 steals and 4 homers there. He shared the shortstop spot with Chuan-Sheng Tseng in 2021, and he hit .212/.256/.280 with 9 steals. Chang improved and he was selected into the 2022 CPBL All-Star Games; he was 0-for-3 with a steal in Game 2. He ended up hitting .257/.307/.284 with 14 steals, and ranked 7th in steals (24 behind Chen-Wei Chen). He was 0-for-6 in the first two games of the 2022 CPBL Playoff Series against the CTBC Brothers, then went 2-for-3 in Game 3. The Brothers still beat the Dragons in 3 games.

The Pingtung native was the starting shortstop for the Dragons in 2023, and he hit .222/.296/.303 with 9 swipes. He hit .308/.379/.346 in the 2023 Taiwan Series, with a RBI double off Tzu-Peng Huang in Game 6, and helped the Dragons beat the Rakuten Monkeys in 7 games. Chang then represented Taiwan in the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship, but he was 0-for-8 in the first three games. Chang finally bounced back and went 2-for-4, with a triple against Samuel Holland of Australia, and helped Taiwan beat Australia to win Bronze.
