Clayton Campbell has played in the minors and for the Australian national team.
Campbell was 0-for-1 for the Auckland Tuatara in 2016-2017. The Detroit Tigers then signed him; the scout was Kevin Hooker. [1] He was the first Kiwi to ever sign with the Tigers. [2] He played 37 games with a .149/.318/.228 batting line for the FCL Tigers in 2022. He represented Australia in the 2022 U-23 Baseball World Cup. In that event, the third baseman hit .308/.500/.462 while fielding .818 at the hot corner. [3]
The Auckland native hit .259/.312/.375 for the Tuatara in 2022-2023, and he improved to .284/.416/.514 in FCL in 2023. He also played 12 games with the class-A Lakeland Flying Tigers, but his batting line fell to .189/.354/.378. As the Tuatara dissolved, Campbell played for the Sydney Blue Sox in 2023-2024, and he hit .151/.247/.206 in 21 games, splitting first base with Joe DeLuca. He represented Australia in the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship, and he was 1-for-5 with a RBI single against Dong-ju Moon of South Korea in their opener. He was then 0-for-3 against Chinese Taipei, and he went 1-for-3 with a single against Shunsuke Sato versus Japan. In the Bronze Medal Game, Campbell went 0-for-4 and Chinese Taipei beat them thanks to Tien-Hsin Kuo's walk-off hit.[4]
