Biographical Information

Dong-ju Moon pitched in the KBO and for the South Korea national baseball team.

Moon represented South Korea in the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup. He started against Nicaragua, pitching 4 1/3 innings with only a run allowed and ended up with a no-decision. He then pitched 2 innings with 2 runs allowed against Venezuela. The Hanwha Eagles picked him in the first round of the 2022 KBO draft, and he received a 500 million won signing bonus. Moon struggled in his rookie year, recording a 5.65 ERA in 13 games. The Gwangju native broke out in 2023. He became the first Korean pitcher to reach 160 km/h in official records (99.4 mph) on April 12 against the Kia Tigers, and he was also selected into the 2023 KBO All-Star Game; he pitched a shutout inning with only a single allowed. Although he missed a month due to the 2022 Asian Games (held in '23 after delays from COVID-19), Moon still ended up 8-8 with a 3.72 ERA. He won 85 votes in the KBO Rookie of the Year voting, and beat Young-Cheol Yoon to win that award.

In addition to his solid performance in the KBO, Moon also pitched well in the international events held in 2023. He dueled with Yu-Min Lin of Chinese Taipei in the Asian Games, pitching 4 innings with 2 runs allowed and got the loss. Moon got revenge soon in the Gold Medal game, when he recorded 6 shutout innings with 7 strikeouts to get the win over Lin and helped Korea win Gold. He then made it onto their roster for the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. Moon started against Australia, pitched 5 2/3 innings with 5 Ks and 2 earned runs, and ended up with a no-decision; Korea won Silver in that event.

Moon's repertoire included a fastball (peak 99 mph), curveball, slider and changeup.
