Shunsuke Sato has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Sato was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the second round of the 2021 NPB draft. .[1] He joined the rotation in his rookie year, and he had a 3-4 record with a 4.60 ERA in 12 games. The Lions moved him to the bullpen in 2023, and he recorded a 2.50 ERA in 47 appearances and notched 18 holds. Sato then made it onto Japan's roster for the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. He relieved Kojiro Yoshimura in the 7th inning against Australia, but he faced serious control problems. He walked Rixon Wingrove and Alex Hall, allowed a single to Clayton Campbell then retired Luke Smith to escape the jam. Japan beat South Korea in the title game and won Gold.[2]
Sato's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 96.3 mph, a slider, curveball, palmball and a changeup.[3]
