Biographical Information[edit]

Kuo-Chen Fan has played in the CPBL and been on the Taiwanese national team.

Fan was the fifth pick of the Fubon Guardians in the 2017 CPBL Draft. [1]He debuted in the 2017 CPBL, getting his first hit off Kai-Wen Cheng, and homered first time off Yi-Cheng Wang on September 29, 2017. [2] He played in the Asia Winter Baseball League. [3] In 2018, Fan hit .287/.321/.379 with 2 dingers. Although hit by pitch in April and missed all of the first half season, he still batted .318/.367/.484 and slashed five homers in 2019. However, his defense is a mess, since the Guardians forced him to play the unfamiliar third baseman position because they had already had legendary first baseman Yi-Chuan Lin. His fielding percentage in third base in 2020 was a disastrous .780, and he led the league with 11 errors in third base. Frequently shifting position also influenced his batting, cause him hit a career worst .283/.324/.426 with only five homeruns.

Fortunately, with Yi-Chuan Lin hitting the DH mostly in 2021, Fan took back the familiar first baseman position and had a career year. He ended up hitting .270/.345/.423 with career-high 9 home runs. He improved in 2022, as hit .293/.339/.416 with 9 dingers and won his first Best Ten and CPBL Gold Glove. Fan also attended the 2022 CPBL All-Star Game, but he was 0-for-1. He finished fourth in hits, third in doubles (behind Li Lin and Kai-Wei Lee), seventh in home runs (between Chen-Fei Lin and Chi-Hung Liu), second in total bases (30 behind Li Lin) and sixth in RBIs (51).

Fan then made Taiwan's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. [4] He pinch-hit for Tsung-Che Cheng against Italy, and he hit a game-winning RBI single off Joey Marciano. He then pinch-hit versus Cuba, but Livan Moinelo retired him. Fan was selected into the 2023 CPBL All-Star Game, but he was 0-for-4. He had another solid season in 2023, hitting .264/.327/.406 with 12 homers and ranked 6th in homers (11 behind Giljegiljaw Kungkuan). He won the Best Ten and Gold Glove again.
