Biographical Information[edit]
Clarence Caasalan has been on the Philippines national team.
Caasalan was 0 for 3 with a HBP in the 2017 Asian Championship. [1] In the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, he helped the Philippines win Gold. [2] He went 5-for-12 with two doubles, a homer, five runs and two RBI when they won the 2023 East Asian Baseball Cup and pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings; he had the event's lone homer. [3] That won a spot in the 2023 Asian Championship for the Philippines.
In the 2022 Asian Games (held in '23 after delays from COVID-19), he went 3-for-8 with two walks, a triple, run and two RBI. He also pitched well in two outings. He closed out a 6-0 loss to Japan, relieving Kennedy Torres and facing the minimum - he walked Masashi Maruyama, struck out Kohei Sasagawa and got Kazuya Shimokawa to hit into a double play. He also closed out a 11-1 win over Thailand, replacing Renato Samuel Jr. and again facing the minimum as he struck out Pakorn Chaikaew, got Jake Jie Ren Chaisongkram on a grounder and whiffed Yuthai Ryoto. [4] During the '23 Asian Championship, he eked out a .133/.263/.267 line but drove in four runs in five games (all four RBI came against Thailand); he allowed one run in two innings against Japan. He tied for 7th in the event in RBI and tied Ferdinand Liguayan Jr. and Iggy Escano for the team lead. [5]
Clarence hit .353/.368/.412 for the Philippines in the 2024 East Asian Baseball Cup and fielded .917. He made one pitching appearance, relieving John Matanguihan in the title game versus Hong Kong and working the final four innings scoreless with just one hit and striking out four with no walks to save the 4-2 title match. He was named the event's All-Star shortstop - and the All-Star relief pitcher! [6]
