Renato Samuel Jr. has played for the Philippines national team.
He was 4 for 7 with a double, four runs and a RBI when the Filipinos won the 2023 East Asian Baseball Cup and also pitched one shutout inning (1 H, 2 K); the team won a spot in the 2023 Asian Championship. [1] In the 2022 Asian Games (held in 2023 after delays due to COVID-19 precautions in host China), he caught one game (Mark Manaig was the main backstop), going 0 for 4 against Laos' Mung Chuevakham and Yayua Wa. He handled 11 chances error-free. He also pitched once, relieving Joshua Pineda in the 7th against Thailand with a 8-1 lead. Phoomwut Wutthikorn singled, then Samuel whiffed Suppakorn Lim and Nirawit Bunnam and walked Naruephol Muangkasem. A Joe Daru fly-out ended the inning, then Clarence Caasalan closed it out. [2]
