2024 East Asian Baseball Cup
The 2024 East Asian Baseball Cup was the fifth East Asian Baseball Cup and took place October 29 to November 2 in the Philippines. Philippines had won the first four East Asian Cups. Also competing were Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore - Indonesia (a former participant) replaced Laos from the 2023 East Asian Baseball Cup. October 29[edit]
- Hong Kong 16, Malaysia 1. Hong Kong only needs five innings to rout Malaysia. LF Tsun-Wai Yung drives in four and Ching Connor Kwok gets the win with three hitless frames. The loss goes to Md Aiman Faqih Mohd Rohaizimi.
- Thailand 14, Cambodia 4. In another expectedly easy win, Suepsak Somsuai gets the victory over Phon Netra. Coming off the bench, Suratit Faengsup reaches all three times and produces four runs. 3B/P Bunhouth Chhuy leads Cambodia with two hits.
- Philippines 13, Indonesia 1. The defending champs get a four-hitter from Romeo Jasmin Jr., Kennedy Torres and Juan Paulo Macasaet. C Mark Manaig scores three times. Veteran Muhammad Akbar takes the defeat, while Indonesia's run comes when 2B I Gede Ricky Takahashi Suasta drives in 3B Muhammad Vendy Kurniawan.
October 30[edit]
- Hong Kong 5, Cambodia 2. In the first game not ended early due to the mercy rule, Cambodia takes a surprising 2-1 lead after 5 1/2 before Hong Kong rallies. Ka-Ho Sam Leung gets the win and SS Hoi-Ting Cheng scores a pair. 1B Sakada Lav drives in both Cambodian runs while Soknim Deap takes the loss but keeps them in it for a good while.
- Thailand 31, Malaysia 0. Thailand only needs four innings to plate 31 runners! SS Suepsak Somsuai drives in five and 16 different runners score for the Thai team. Kiattisak Chutongrat is the winning hurler, Vimallan Palaniandy the losing one. CF Haikal Odin Muhammad goes 2-for-2 for Malaysia.
- Philippines 15, Singapore 0. Junmar Diarao, Vladimir Eguia and Raymond Nerosa team on a five-inning one-hitter while CF/SS Kyle Soberano scores three and RF John Vargas homers. RF Bin Tan Sabri Mohamed Mikhail Ming has the lone Singapore hit, the decision going to Eleazar Jie Xian Ng.
October 31[edit]
- Hong Kong 7, Thailand 0. Hong Kong finishes pool play unbeaten while Thailand takes their first loss, Yu-Hin Oscar Cheng throwing seven shutout innings to beat Phanuwat Sukmuang. 3B Hon-Man Ashley Ma has three hits.
- Malaysia 12, Cambodia 8. In a matchup of winless teams, Malaysia triumphs. Wan Nazirul Hakimi Wan Nazri allows four runs (two earned) in nine innings of relief for the win while CF Syamier Zulkiffli produces three runs. Sonkim Deap gets the loss for the second day in a row.
- Singapore 11, Indonesia 9. Singapore also gets its first win, also by a reliever going a long distance; Jyoji Ito pitches eight innings out of the bullpen for the decision over Rawafi Yaputra Yanto Rozali. SS Kohei Wong drives in three for the victors, while C Faldy Akhmad Zulfikar produces three for the losing side.
November 1[edit]
- Hong Kong 14, Singapore 4. Hong Kong begins the super round with another strong win. RF Yau-Pang Ng has 3 hits and 4 runs and Chun-Pui Mok saves it for Lai-Him Lam. Eleazar Jie Xian Ng falls to 0-2. 3B/P Jyoji Ito goes 2 for 2 with 2 RBI for Singapore.
- Indonesia 22, Cambodia 1. Indonesia gets their first win with a rout. Veteran shortstop Rizki Ramadan produces five runs from the 9th spot and Muhammad Arrifqi Zavianda defeats Phon Netra. SS Vev Houn scores Cambodia's run.
- Philippines 9, Thailand 5. The Philippines face their first challenge and are down 4-0 after 2 1/2 but rally to remain unbeaten. RF John Vargas and C Mark Manaig both homer and Mar Joseph Carolino gets the win in relief. SS Phoomwut Wutthikorn reaches three times and produces three runs for Thailand, with the decision going to Suepsak Somsuai.
November 2[edit]
- Thailand 10, Singapore 3. SS Suepsak Somsuai drives in three and Alexander Clark gets the victory over Jeremiah Jia En Lo.
- Indonesia 14, Malaysia 4. C Faldy Akhmad Zulfikar goes 4 for 4 with a walk, two doubles, three runs and four RBI while SS/3B Diva Reza Fabil has five hits. I Gusti Lanang Agung Trianjana gets the win, Rohaizimi Md Aiman Faqth Mohd the loss. LF Saidi Muhammad Aliff Fakhri Idrus scores a pair for Malaysia.
- Philippines 4, Hong Kong 2. The two unbeaten teams squared off in the title game and the defending champs won a close match. John Matanguihan gets the win while retiring one batter but Clarence Caasalan goes four shutout for the save. RF John Vargas remains hot with two RBI. Yui-Fung Wong is the losing hurler, while RF Ho-Lam Andy Lo drives in both Hong Kong runs.
