Biographical Information[edit]
Junmar Diarao has pitched for the Philippines national team.
He debuted for them as a teenager in the 2015 East Asian Baseball Cup, defeating Indonesia then closing out Juan Paulo Macasaet's win over Indonesia in the title game. He was named the event's All-Star LHP, joining Fredo Olivares, Adriane Ros Bernardo and Francis Candela as All-Stars from the champs. [1] In the 2017 Asian Championship, he saved Romeo Jasmin Jr.'s win over Sri Lanka and lost to Tsung-Hao Wang and Taiwan. His 9.45 ERA was better than the team mark of 10.69. [2]
Diarao was playing for the Air Force team in the Philippines in 2019. [3] In the 2019 Asian Championship, he allowed six hits, a walk and three runs (all earned) in two innings in a loss to Jin-su Kim and South Korea; Vladimir Eguia took over. He fared better against Sri Lanka, working six shutout innings to beat Sugath De Silva. Only Jasmin Jr. had a better ERA for the team in the tournament. He tied Hyeong-jun So for 6th in the event in IP and tied Kim for 6th with ten hits allowed. [4] He then won Gold with the Filipino squad in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. [5]
The southpaw allowed one unearned run in seven innings when his team won the 2023 East Asian Baseball Cup; he was not the ERA leader as Eleazar Jie Xian Ng was also at 0.00 but in 9 IP. [6] The Philippines won a spot in the 2023 Asian Championship. Before that event, though, he suited up for them in the 2023 Asian Games. [7]
