Biographical Information[edit]
Juan Paulo Macasaet was with the Philippines national team for the 2015 East Asian Baseball Cup; he allowed only one hit in their win in the finale over Indonesia and was named MVP. He was back with them for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers; at age 20, he was their youngest player. He got into one game, relieving Ryan Juarez with a 16-7 deficit, one on and one out in the bottom of the 8th against New Zealand. He walked Daniel Bradley then Tyron Bartorillo hit into a game-ending error by Adriane Ros Bernardo as that made it a 17-7 mercy rule loss, eliminating the Philippines. In the 2017 Asian Championship, he went 7 1/3 against Sri Lanka, getting a no-decision in a game the Philippines won after he exited. He also got the start in the Bronze Medal game against South Korea, with the Philippines trying for their first Asian Championship medal in 46 years but allowed 7 hits, 3 walks and 6 runs (4 earned) in three innings before Junmar Diarao relieved in what turned into a 15-0 loss.
