Biographical Information[edit]
Tyron Bartorillo won two world softball titles (2009, 2013) when he decided to switch to baseball briefly in 2016 to play for the New Zealand national team in the 2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. His father John Bartorillo and uncle Ron Bartorillo had played baseball in Australia. Despite being a rookie with the team, he was their oldest player, 3 months ahead of Scott Campbell. Tyron got into one game but he wound up with the game-ending play in the Diamondlback's lone win. Batting for Alan Schoenberger with a 16-7 lead in the bottom of the 8th and two on, he faced Juan Paulo Macasaet and hit into an error by Adriane Ros Bernardo to score Tim Auty with the 17th run, making it a mercy rule win.
