Biographical Information[edit]

Vladi Eguia pitched for the Philippines national team when they won Gold in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games. In the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he tied big leaguer Geno Espineli as the team's most effective hurler, as both worked two hitless, scoreless innings. Eguia made two appearances. In his first, he relieved Jon-Jon Robles with one on and one out in the 5th against Thailand, holding a 4-1 lead. He plunked Apichat Ngamying but got Johnny Damon to hit into a double play. Darwin dela Calzada relieved him in the 6th. The Philippines went on to win. In his other outing, he replaced Devon Ramirez with a 10-2 deficit in the 7th against New Zealand; two were on with two out. He retired Daniel Lamb-Hunt to escape that jam, then went 1-2-3 in the 8th against Aaron Campbell, Beau Bishop and Moko Moanaroa. Espineli replaced him in the 9th.

The lefty pitched for the Philippines in the 2012 Asian Championship. In the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he worked one inning (other actual Filipinos worked only 1/3 of an inning as Filipino-Americans saw almost all the playing time). Relieving Austin Haynal in the 6th inning of the opener with a 4-1 deficit against Australia, he walled Brad Harman and threw a wild pitch but then retired Mitch Dening, Stefan Welch and former major leaguer Luke Hughes in order. Leslie Cabiling relieved him in the 7th.
