Biographical Information[edit]

Chun-Wei Wu played in the CPBL.

Wu was drafted by the CTBC Brothers in the fourth round of the 2018 CPBL Draft, but he spent his first seasons in the minor leagues. Wu debuted in 2019, and he had a 2.89 ERA in 16 appearances. He soon became one of the top middle-inning relievers in the league, and led the league in holds with 24 while his ERA was solid 3.08. In the 2020 Taiwan Series, he relieved Kai-Wen Cheng and pitched 2/3 of an inning in Game 1, then pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings in Game 4. He struggled in Game 6, relieved Jose De Paula in the 8th inning after he walked Yung-Chi Chen. However, he couldn't hold the game as Wu-Hsiung Pan hit a RBI double then Ching-Kai Lin collected a hit. Chi-Che Tsai replaced him, but Dai-An Lin's clutch hit gave Wu another earned run, and the Brothers were beaten by the Uni-President Lions in the next game.

The Pingtung native extended his solid performance, as he led the league again in holds with 27 and recorded a 3.20 ERA in 55 relief outings in 2021. He broke Tzu-Peng Huang's record to become the youngest player to reach 50 career holds, doing so on October 30. In the 2021 Taiwan Series, Wu pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings in Game 2, but he allowed 2 runs in one inning in Game 3 because of An-Ko Lin's clutch 2-RBI double. The Brothers swept the Lions, and Wu won his first Taiwan Series title.

However, Wu struggled and had a terrible 10.38 ERA in 15 games in 2022, so he primarily stayed in the minor league. Wu bounced back in 2023, and became the best relief pitcher in the league. On May 19, 2023, Wu, Hao-Chun Cheng, Jung-Hao Hsieh and Yen-Ching Lu completed the first combined no-hitter in the CPBL history. He collected 26 holds with an elite 1.22 ERA in a league-leading 61 appearances, and became the first pitcher to lead the league in holds three times. He also attended the 2023 CPBL All-Star Game, and pitched a shutout inning by retiring Tien-Hsin Kuo, Chia-Hsiang Sung and Kun-Yu Chiang respectively. Wu had a 1.22 ERA in 61 games in 2023 with 26 holds, and he led the league in appearances and holds.
