Biographical Information[edit]

Jung-Hao Hsieh pitched in the CPBL and for the Chinese Taipei national baseball team.

Hsieh represented Taiwan in the 2005 World Youth Championship, 2008 Junior World Championship, 2012 Haarlemse Honkbalweek, 2013 World Port Tournament and 2013 East Asian Games. Hsieh started against Brazil and allowed 2 runs in 5 innings for a no-decision in the 2005 event. In the 2008 junior championship, Hsieh pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed 5 runs and got 2 losses. The Canadians got a walk-off hit off him. He was 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in 4 1/3 innings in the World Port Tournament.

The CTBC Brothers drafted Hsieh in the 2nd round of the 2013 CPBL Draft. Hsieh pitched well in his rookie year, recorded a 3.07 ERA in 52 relief outings, and collected 19 holds. He was selected into the All-Star Game as a rookie. In the 2014 Taiwan Series, Hsieh pitched 4 1/3 innings, notched a hold in Game 4, and didn't allowed any runs. Hsieh joined the rotation in the beginning of the 2015 season, but he struggled and recorded a 5.27 ERA in 8 starts. He was moved from the rotation in June, but couldn't got back his condition. He ended up 3-7 with a 5.44 ERA in this season. Hsieh amazingly shined in the 2015 Taiwan Series, as he pitched 5 games and 6 1/3 innings, collected a hold in Game 3 and allowed no runs.

Hsieh was part of Taiwan's designated pitcher pool for the 2015 Premier 12 but was not activated. In 2016, Hsieh was a full-time reliever and notched 8 holds in 17 games with a 4.76 ERA. However, he suffered a right elbow injury, and missed the 2016 season from May and nearly the entire 2017 season. The Kaohsiung native came back in the 2018 season, pitched 17 games with a 3.78 ERA, and collect 8 holds. He was still an important part for the Brothers' bullpen in 2019, had a 4.67 ERA in 38 appearances, and collected 4 holds and 8 saves. He was the closer for the Brothers in the beginning of this year, but then C.C. Lee replaced him. Hsieh extended his reliable pitching, as he recorded a 3.92 ERA in 20 2/3 innings in 2020. The 2021 season was Hsieh's career year. He collected 8 holds in 47 innings, and his ERA was an elite 2.87. In 2022, Hsieh exploded and allowed 6 runs in 5 2/3 innings. The Brothers then demoted him to the minor league. Hsieh pitched 24 innings with an excellent 0.38 ERA in the minors, but couldn't come back to the major because Yen-Ching Lu and Chih-Lung Yang joined the bullpen and took his spot. On May 19, 2023, Hsieh, Hao-Chun Cheng, Yen-Ching Lu and Chun-Wei Wu completed the first combined no-hitter in the CPBL history. He had a 5.87 ERA in 33 relief outings in 2023.

Hsieh has a peak 95.7 mph fastball and a curveball, a slider, and a changeup.
