Biographical Information[edit]

Chia-Hsiang Sung has been a catcher in the Chinese Professional Baseball League and for the Taiwanese national team.

Sung represented Taiwan in the 2022 U-18 Baseball World Cup, hitting .200/.400/.367 for the Silver Medalists and playing error-free ball behind the dish. [1] The Rakuten Monkeys drafted him in the first round of the 2022 CPBL Draft; he received a 5.2 million NT dollars signing bonus.[2] Sung spent his rookie year in the minor league, and he hit .333/.385/.417 there. The Monkeys then promoted him, and Sung recorded a .268/.317/.372 batting line with 3 homers in 2023. Sung was also selected into the 2023 CPBL All-Star Game, and he was retired by Enderson Franco in the 8th inning in Game 1. He then pinch-hit for Chin-Wei Lin Wu in Game 2, but he was 0-for-2 and Elian Leyva struck him out in the 7th inning. Sung only had one at-bat in the 2023 Taiwan Series. It came in Game 5, and Tzu-Yu Lin struck out him; the Monkeys were beaten by the Wei Chuan Dragons in 7 games.[3]

The Kaohsiung native then made it onto Taiwan's roster for the 2023 Asian Championship. He was 1-for-13 in the entire event - the only hit was a single against Shuichiro Kayo of Japan in the 3rd inning. Taiwan was beaten by Japan in the title game and won Silver in the event. He was error-free in 45 chances as a catcher in 5 games, and caught Motoki Mukoyama stealing second in the 3rd inning against Japan. [4]
