Biographical Information[edit]

Jo-Hsi Hsu has played in the CPBL.

Hsu was drafted by the expansion Wei Chuan Dragons in the first round of their first draft - the 2019 CPBL Draft. He spent his first seasons in the minor leagues because the Dragons weren't allowed to play in the major league until 2020, and he only pitched 4 innings there. Hsu performed one of the most dramatic debut sin CPBL history on March 17 against the CTBC Brothers. He pitched 3 2/3 innings with 11 strikeouts, becoming the second local pitcher in CPBL history to collect double-digit Ks in debut, following Hung-Chin Tu, who had done so in the league's first game. He was the first player ever to have more than 10 strikeouts while getting all outs in a game by strikeout.

The Taoyuan native extended his solid performance, and broke another CPBL record by striking 8 straight batters to open a game against the Fubon Guardians. He ended up 3-7 with a 3.11 ERA in his rookie year and collected 98 strikeouts, ranked 6th in Ks (89 behind Jose De Paula). He got 51 points for the CPBL Rookie of the Year Award, finishing third behind Jyun-Yueh Tseng's 176 points and Tien-Hsin Kuo's 123. However, Hsu underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the 2022 season and most of the 2023 season. He came back on September in 2023, and pitched 15 1/3 innings with an elite 1.17 ERA. The Dragons then named him as the starter of the opening game in 2023 Taiwan Series, letting him become the youngest pitcher ever to start in a Taiwan Series' opener. He pitched 4 innings with one run allowed and ended up with a no-decision. The young local ace of Wei Chuan pitched 7 shutout innings, with only one infield hit allowed, in Game 6 to get the win. The Dragons won the championship, and he was named the Taiwan Series MVP.

Hsu was on Taiwan's roster for the 2023 Asian Championship, and he started against South Korea in the series opener. He was the first pitcher to pitch in the Taipei Dome in a International event. Hsu shut down Korea as he struck out ten in 7 innings, only allowed 2 walks and got the win. He then dueled with southpaw Mizuki Kato of Japan in the Gold Medal Game. Hsu was still dominant as he struck out 8 in 5 innings. He only allowed a unearned run due to Ching-Kai Lin's error, but still got the loss because Kato, Yoshiki Fuchigami and Shuichiro Kayo shut out Taiwan. He led the tournament in strikeouts with 18, and ranked 2nd in ERA (1 inning behind Steven Mufareh).

His repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 97.5 mph and a changeup.
