Biographical Information[edit]

Che-Yuan Wu pitched in the CPBL

Wu was picked by the CTBC Brothers in the 10th round of the 2016 CPBL Draft. He then debut in 2017 and pitched 29 games with a 3-1 record and 3.00 ERA. But his pitching collapsed in 2018, as his ERA raised to 6.46. Thus Wu spent almost the entire 2019 season in the CPBL minors with a league-leading 8 saves and perfect 0.40 ERA.[1] He was 1-0 with 3.30 ERA in 20 appearances in the 2020 CPBL, not bad, but didn’t enable him to stay in the Major League of the CPBL. He was 2.14 in 33.2 outings and notched 3 saves, which made him the all-time CPBL minor league saves record holder.[2]

In 2022, since Shawn Morimando and Teddy Stankiewicz both left in midseason, the Brothers decided to pull Wu into the rotation, which helped him get the career year. He had a 10-game winning streak and ended 11-1 with 2.85 ERA. He broke the highest winning percentage record held by Mike Johnson since 2008, and also won his first CPBL Gold Glove and CPBL Most Improved Player Award this year. He started the final game of the 2022 Taiwan Series as the Brothers swept the Rakuten Monkeys. He then made Taiwan's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic because Jen-Ho Tseng withdrew. [3]He relieved Tzu-Peng Huang against Netherlands and pitched 4 1/3 innings with no runs allowed. However, he suffered from right shoulder injury, so he only pitched 7 games with a 2-3 record and a 3.05 ERA in 2023.
