Biographical Information

Catcher Chun-Chang Yeh has played 16 years in the CPBL and almost as long with the Taiwan national team. Never noted as a hitter, Yeh had one of his best games in a clutch situation, winning him a Taiwan Series MVP Award.

Yeh was with the Taiwan team in the 1989 World Junior Championship and 1990 World Junior Championship. He made his debut with the senior team in the 1993 Asian Championship. He was 1 for 17 with 5 walks as their starting catcher in the 1994 Baseball World Cup and also played in the 1994 Asian Games. He appeared in the 1995 Asian Championship and 1995 Intercontinental Cup (a walk in his only plate appearance).

The Taipei native began his professional debut in 1996 with the Wei Chuan Dragons, hitting .267/.299/.312. He followed with a .198/.240/.229 campaign in 1997 and .195/.270/.244 in 1998. In 1999, he batted .258/.312/.300 for Wei Chuan. Yeh moved to the Sinon Bulls in 2000 and hit .264/.316/.300. He won his first Best Ten and CPBL Gold Glove in this season Yeh batted .180/.215/.180 in 22 games in the 2000-2001 International Baseball League of Australia. In 2001, he batted .253/.293/.299 and won the Gold Glove and Best Ten again. Returning to the national team, he was 0 for 4 with 2 walks in the 2001 Baseball World Cup. Yeh produced at a .212/.277/.275 clip for the 2002 Bulls, and he took home his third Best Ten and Gold Glove.

Yeh hit .257/.289/.330 in 2003 for Sinon. He played in the 2003 Asian Championship. In 2004, he batted just .223/.233/.307 and hit .300/.351/.390 to help the Bulls beat the Uni-President Lions in 7 games. In the 2004 Olympics, he hit .174/.208/.217. For the 2005 Bulls, he batted .212/.255/.243. He came alive in the 2005 Taiwan Series. In game four, he had 6 hits to lead Sinon to the win and won the MVP award as a result. It was his 7th Taiwan Series; his batting line was .353/.353/.471. Yeh was 0 for 4 for Taiwan in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He was also in the 2006 Asian Games and 2006 Intercontinental Cup, hitting .250/.250/.500 in the latter event. For the 2006 Bulls, Yeh batted .248/.290/.287. In 2007, he hit .243/.303/.284 for Sinon. He played in the 2007 Baseball World Cup (.118/.211/.176 in 7 games) and 2007 Asian Championship (playing 1 inning as a backup).

In the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament, he was 1 for 9 as Taiwan locked up a spot in the 2008 Olympics. He was involved in a home plate confrontation after Canada's Jimmy Van Ostrand collided with him. Yeh threw the ball at Van Ostrand, who got into a verbal dispute over the action. The police had to intervene to resume the game. Yeh was Taiwan's starting backstop in the 2008 Olympics. He hit .308/.286/.308. Yeh's batting line was .225/.271/.267 in the 2008 season.

Yeh hit .233/.284/.279 in 2009, and the Bulls released him. He signed with the Brother Elephants, and he hit .185/.240/.220. Yeh's batting line was .231/.375/.231 in the 2010 Taiwan Series, and the Elephant swept the Bulls. He hit .177/.226/.185 in 67 games in his final season - the 2011 season. He was also selected into the 2011 CPBL All-Star Game, and he was 0-for-1. He announced his retirement after the 2011 season and became a coach.

After retiring as an active player, Yeh worked for the baseball players' union in Taiwan, then coached for the Lamigo Monkeys when they won the 2014 Taiwan Series. He moved to the EDA Rhinos for 2015 and became their third manager that year, following Von Joshua and Alvaro Espinoza but going 58-61-1 the remainder of the season despite record-setting home run hitter Kuo-Hui Kao, batting champion Chin-Lung Hu, RBI record-setter Yi-Chuan Lin and pitching Triple Crown winner Mike Loree. He guided them to a title in the 2016 Taiwan Series, the only one in Rhinos history. He managed them until 2018, and the Wei Chuan Dragons hired him. Yeh led them to victory in the 2023 Taiwan Series.

Overall, Yeh hit .230/.281/.271 with 961 hits and 130 doubles in 16 seasons in the CPBL.
