2006 Asian Games

The 2006 Asian Games were the 4th Asian Games to include baseball as a medal event. They were held in Doha, Qatar from November 29 through December 7, 2006.

The Games were won by the Taiwan national team, its first Gold in the Games. They went 5-0 to sweep their way to victory. The roster included major leaguer Hong-Chih Kuo, former big leaguer Chin-Feng Chen, future major leaguers Chin-Lung Hu and C.C. Lee and AAA player Yung-Chi Chen. The key game was a 8-7 win over Japan in the finale; they trailed 7-6 in the bottom of the 9th but Chih-Sheng Lin had a 2-run game-winning single to end it.

 Japan took home Silver at 4-1. They sent their amateur national team instead of one laden with top stars.

 South Korea won Bronze at 3-2 despite numerous top Korean players such as Dae-ho Lee, Min-han Son, Jin-man Park and Byung-kyu Lee as well as future big leaguer Hyun-jin Ryu.

 People's Republic of China finished 4th as expected at 2-3, routing the Philippines 15-4 but losing 16-0 to Japan and 12-2 to South Korea.

 Thailand placed 5th at 1-4. The top performer was Krissada Heebthong, who struck out 23 batters to lead the Games.

 Philippines was last at 0-5.
