2017 CPBL All-Star Game

The 2017 CPBL All-Star Game was held July 8, 2017. It was the first time that the All-Star Game took place in Eastern Taiwan. The theme of this year was the prospects versus the veterans. Those who were born after January 1, 1993 or who played in the CPBL fewer than 3 years formed the prospect team, while the other players formed the veteran team.

The game took place July 8 at Hualien Baseball Field with an attendance of 5,051. The Prospect team scored first with Chun-Hsiu Chen's sacrifice fly, then the Veterans took back the lead with Chih-Hao Chang and Cheng-Wei Chang's back-to-back homers in the 2nd inning. The Prospects answered soon. Chih-Fang Pan hit a leadoff single in the third, stole second and scored thanks to Chieh-Hsien Chen's single. Po-Jung Wang then crushed a 2-run homer. The Veterans added a run with Ssu-Chi Chou's RBI single in the bottom of the inning to close it to 4-3.

Po-Jung Wang was red-hot in this game, and he drove in another 2 runs with a single in the 4th inning. Che-Hsuan Lin and Tao-Jung Tseng's back-to-back doubles extended the Prospects' lead to 5 runs in the 5th inning. Chou and Yi-Chuan Lin hit 2 singles in the 6th inning, and Yung-Chi Chen's grounder drove in a run to decrease their opponent's lead a little. However, The prospects'Chih-Hsien Chiang, a left-handed batter, crushed a solo homer against Yi-Cheng Wang while hitting from the right side and secured their lead. The Veterans didn't give up; Hsiao-Yi Kao and De-Long Yu singled in the 7th inning, then Yi-Chuan Lin collected 2 RBI with a double. The prospects' Chun-Hsiang Chu gave up 2 singles after Ke-Wei Fang reached first in the 8th inning, and he walked Yu to made this a 2-run game. Yun-Wen Chen was on the mound in the 9th inning, but he allowed a leadoff single to Yung-Chi Chen, walked Sheng-Wei Wang and Fang hit a RBI double. Kao added a single, and Cheng-Wei Chang hit a line drive to second. Second baseman Chia-Wei Yang jumped but he couldn't reach the ball. It was a walk-off single, and the Veterans grabbed the win; Chang was named the MVP.
