Biographical Information[edit]

Cheng-Hua Kao made into the All-Star Game one time in his 11-year CPBL career. His uncle is CPBL outfielder Chia-Hsien Hsieh.

Kao was signed by the Uni-President Lions in 1999, and he was a backup catcher in his first four seasons; he only had 166 at-bats combined. Kao was finally named the starting catcher in 2004 as he replaced Chao-Hui Wu, and he hit .209/.305/.255 in 82 games. He was 2-for-19 in the 2004 Taiwan Series, and the Lions were beaten by the Sinon Bulls in 7 games. However, since legendary catcher Chih-Kang Kao started his Lions career in 2005, Cheng-Hua Kao lost his starting spot. He hit .223/.331/.295 in 66 games in 2005, then he slumped to .184/.287/.224 in 2006, so he only played 29 games in 2007. When Chih-Kang was injured and missed the 2008 CPBL All-Star Game, Kao replaced him and he was 0-for-1. He had a .294/.403/.373 batting line in 22 games in 2008. He only played 54 more games in the next two seasons, and he announced his retirement after the 2010 season. He was then the battery coach for the Lions from 2011 to 2018.

Overall, Kao hit .216/.313/.272 with 172 hits in 11 seasons in the CPBL.
